Queen Wongyeong, born to Min Je during the Goryeo period, came from a prestigious family of high-ranking officials. Married to Yi Bang-Won, son of King Taejo, she supported her husband's ambitions to become King Taejong after his father bypassed him for the throne. As a kingmaker, she helped establish a new regime.
